
UNC School of Law
Lissa Broome is the Burton Craige Distinguished Professor, director of the school’s Center for Banking and Finance, faculty adviser to the North Carolina Banking Institute journal, and head of the school’s Director Development Initiative (DDI), which works to help match aspiring board members, particularly those from underrepresented groups, with for-profit and nonprofit board opportunities. The DDI also provides training for those interested in corporate board service. Broome serves as the University’s Faculty Athletics Representative to the Atlantic Coast Conference and the NCAA. She teaches Banking Law and Secured Transactions. Broome has a degree in finance from the University of Illinois and earned a JD from Harvard Law School.

First Citizens
Debra Ingraham Cho is Compliance Executive and Head of Central Compliance at First Citizens Bank. She leads compliance issues management, risk assessment, regulatory change initiatives, and compliance testing teams, and works with regulators, internal audit, executive management, and the board of directors on compliance risk management and regulatory matters. Cho has more than 20 years of experience in compliance, regulatory, and risk leadership roles across major financial institutions. Prior to her current role, she served as Interim Chief Compliance Officer and Senior Vice President at First Citizens Bank. Earlier in her career, she held several managing director positions at Wells Fargo; served in compliance leadership roles at UBS; and was a Senior Vice President and Senior Compliance Manager at Bank of America.
Cho received her JD from Washington and Lee University School of Law and her BA in Communication and Legal Studies from SUNY Geneseo.

Board of Directors, Citigroup Inc.
Titi Cole serves on the boards of Citigroup and Datadog, as well as on the board of CARE USA, where she chairs the Audit and Risk Management Committee. She is a financial services executive and global business leader who most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Franchises at Citigroup and was a member of the company’s Executive Management Team. In that role, she managed and oversaw the divestiture of Citigroup’s international consumer banking division, which operated across 14 countries and employed more than 70,000 people. Cole has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services, payments, and professional services industries. Previously, she spent six years at McKinsey & Company and held leadership roles across the financial services sector.
Cole received her Bachelor of Economics from the University of Ibadan and her MBA from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management.

USAA
Nishant Desai is Chief Compliance and Operational Risk Officer at USAA. He leads the company’s compliance and operational risk functions, with responsibility for risk governance, compliance management, operational risk frameworks, risk appetite programs, and oversight of emerging risks. Desai has more than 20 years of experience in risk and compliance leadership across financial institutions and has held several senior roles at USAA. Prior to joining USAA, he served as Chief Compliance Officer at TIAA Bank, SVP and Deputy Chief Compliance Officer at BB&T, SVP and Corporate Compliance Manager at SunTrust Bank, and held a series of compliance, operational risk, and information security leadership roles at Bank of America.
Desai received his MBA from the Texas McCombs School of Business and his BS in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin.

USAA
Elaine Edson is Director of Quantitative Risk Management, AI Risk Management at USAA. She leads the AI Risk Management team and oversees the company’s AI Risk Management Framework, AI risk assessments, risk reporting, governance activities, training, and monitoring of emerging AI risks. Edson also provides AI-related updates to senior management, board committees, and other stakeholders and supports the development of risk metrics and indicators associated with artificial intelligence. Prior to her current role, she served in a variety of leadership positions at USAA.
Edson received her BA in Organizational Development from the University of the Incarnate Word.

Board of Directors, USAA
Malcolm Griggs is a member of the Board of Directors of USAA. He has served in a variety of senior risk and credit roles with financial institutions based in Charlotte, Cincinnati, and NYC. He retired from Citizens Financial Group in 2024 as Chief Risk Officer responsible for credit, market, operational, liquidity, compliance, and cybersecurity risk. He was also dual-hatted for 14 months as both Chief Risk Officer and General Counsel/Chief Legal Officer of the company while the firm searched for a replacement for the previous General Counsel. Griggs has also served as chairman of the board of the Risk Management Association (RMA) and as President of the Board of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra.
He obtained his undergraduate degree from UNC and his JD from UNC School of Law. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar.

Fifth Third Bank
Stefan Hayek is Chief Ethics Officer and Senior Director of Commercial Compliance at Fifth Third Bank. In this role, he leads the bank’s ethics function and commercial compliance activities. Hayek has been with Fifth Third Bank for more than a decade and has held a variety of legal, compliance, and risk management positions within the organization. Prior to his current role, he served in a variety of roles including as Associate General Counsel, Capital Markets & Compliance. Earlier in his career, he was an Associate at White & Case LLP and a Visiting Scholar and Research Associate at the University of Notre Dame.
Hayek received his JD from the University of Notre Dame Law School and his BA in International Affairs from The George Washington University.

TIAA
Jeremy Intihar is Managing Director and Head of RIA and Trust Compliance at TIAA. He oversees a team responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance across internal partners, distributors, and third-party relationships and helps navigate regulatory requirements and risk management within the financial services industry. Intihar previously served as Managing Director and Senior Risk and Compliance Officer at TIAA. Prior to joining TIAA, he held a series of compliance leadership roles at Brighthouse Financial and MetLife, and earlier in his career worked as a statistician at MTS Technologies.
Intihar received his BA and MPA from the University of Pittsburgh.

TIAA
Matt Lembcke is Senior Director of Model Governance at TIAA. He serves as Head of Model Governance, with responsibility for the firm’s model governance function and oversight of model risk management activities. Lembcke has extensive experience in model governance, operational risk, market risk, and compliance within the financial services industry. Prior to joining TIAA, he served as Operational Risk Manager at Bank of the West and spent more than 14 years at UBS Wealth Management.
Lembcke received his BA in History from the University of South Carolina-Columbia.

Oliver Wyman
Karin Hill Lockovitch is Partner and Head of Retail Banking Regulatory Compliance at Oliver Wyman. She leads retail banking regulatory compliance advisory services, drawing on extensive experience in risk management, compliance, and banking regulation. Lockovitch has served as a consultant and interim chief risk and compliance officer for a variety of bank and non-bank financial services companies, including Column Bank, loanDepot, and Thrivent Financial Bank. Previously, she held leadership roles at Bank of the West and Zions Bancorporation, SunTrust, Ally, Target Bank, and held credit risk leadership roles at Lehman Brothers Commercial Bank and American Express.
Lockovitch received her MBA in Finance from the University of Utah David Eccles School of Business and her BS in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

USAA
Brandon Moen is Director of Ethics at USAA. He leads ethics-related initiatives and oversight within the organization, drawing on experience in ethics, anti-money laundering compliance, financial crimes risk management, and controls governance. Moen previously served at USAA as Ethics Advisor Lead and Manager of Anti-Money Laundering Compliance. Prior to joining USAA, he held business risk and control roles at Wells Fargo and financial crimes compliance positions at Bank of America. Earlier in his career, he served as General Operations Manager at Transworld Systems and completed a legal externship with the United States Attorney’s Office.
Moen received his JD from Charlotte School of Law and his BS in Business Teacher Education from the University of North Dakota.

Truist
Ed Noonan is Chief Compliance Officer at Truist. He oversees the company’s compliance program and brings extensive experience advising financial institutions on consumer lending, mortgage servicing, regulatory compliance, examinations, and legal risk management. Prior to his current role, Noonan served as Deputy Program Executive and Senior Associate General Counsel at Truist. Earlier in his career, he held several leadership positions at SunTrust Bank, and he was an attorney at Hunton & Williams LLP and a law clerk for the Supreme Court of Virginia.
Noonan received his JD from the University of Richmond School of Law and his BA in Political Science and Government from the University of Richmond.

USAA
Bayo Oyewole is Chief Compliance Officer, Conduct Risk & Ethics at USAA. He oversees the company’s conduct risk compliance program, including anti-bribery and corruption, antitrust, ethics, sensitive positions, licensing, and sales practices, and regularly reports to the board and executive leadership on ethics and compliance trends, risk management, and related governance matters. Oyewole also has responsibility for issue management and controls testing and has led governance efforts related to USAA’s sustainability initiatives. Prior to joining USAA, he served as Executive, Global Compliance at Danaher Corporation and held roles at ThinkSmart Global, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, PepsiCo, Sabre, EY, and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa.
Oyewole received his MBA in Finance from Clark Atlanta University and his BS in Management & Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University.

Ally Financial
Ashley Pauling is Compliance Manager at Ally. In this role, she works within the company’s compliance organization, building on experience in compliance oversight, reporting, and analysis. Prior to joining Ally, Pauling served as Assistant Director, Academic Advisor, and Adjunct Faculty at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Earlier in her career, she held student services and admissions roles at York Technical College and Piedmont Technical College.
Pauling received her MA in Counseling from Hampton University, and her BA in Sociology from the University of South Carolina. Currently, she is pursuing her EdD in Educational Leadership, Higher Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Bank of America
Jeffrey Shue is Managing Director, Global Payment Solutions Compliance and Operational Risk Executive at Bank of America. He leads the teams responsible for compliance and operational risk oversight of the bank’s merchant services products and platform, payment strategy and innovation, and enterprise payment processing across the bank’s core payment rails. Shue has extensive experience in compliance, risk management, and consumer financial regulation, including developing and overseeing compliance programs for payments, lending, deposits, and other financial services. Prior to his current role, he held several senior compliance leadership positions at Bank of America. Earlier in his career, he served in compliance leadership roles at E*TRADE Financial Corporation, at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. He also held compliance and operational risk positions at Citigroup.
Shue received his JD from the University of Baltimore School of Law and his BS in Mass Communication from Towson University.

Truist Wealth
Brian Soja is Senior Associate General Counsel at Truist Wealth. Prior to joining Truist, he was Senior Vice President for Regulatory Exams and Inquiries at LPL Financial where he oversaw matters involving regulatory examinations and inquiries for the firm. Soja has extensive experience working with financial institutions on regulatory and enforcement matters involving federal banking and financial regulators. Previously, he was an Associate with Moore & Van Allen’s Litigation Team, where he focused on government investigations and regulatory defense, representing financial institutions before agencies including the OCC, the Federal Reserve, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina. Earlier in his career, he served as an Attorney at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
Soja received his JD from UNC School of Law and his BA in English from Georgetown University.

Ally Financial, Charlotte, NC
Dan Soto is the chief compliance officer of Ally Financial. In this role, he is responsible for leading the company’s compliance efforts in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. Soto joined the company as an executive compliance director in 2009 and has served as the CCO since 2010. Before joining Ally, Soto held compliance leadership roles at Wachovia Bank, Royal Bank of Canada, and Bank of America. Soto also served for over 15 years as a bank examiner with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
Soto has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Nebraska and attended the American Bankers Association’s (ABA) Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware.

Moore & Van Allen
John Stoker is a member of Moore & Van Allen’s Financial Regulatory Advice & Response Team. Stoker advises clients on a broad array of federal and state banking laws and regulations impacting financial services products, services, and operations. He supports clients in evaluating the permissibility and compliance considerations associated with new product and strategic investment initiatives as well as assisting clients in risk management remediation projects. Prior to joining Moore & Van Allen, Stoker led the Corporate Regulatory Section in the Wells Fargo Legal Department. During his 15 years with Wells Fargo, he served as a senior member and then as the manager of the Section, which provided legal support on regulatory compliance requirements to business groups and to the company’s compliance, risk, regulatory relations, and other enterprise functions. He engaged directly with bank regulatory authorities at senior levels concerning significant regulatory issues, including the permissibility of products and investments, strategic acquisitions, and supervisory and enforcement matters, and he also served as a Legal Department representative on various enterprise risk management governance committees.
Stoker received his undergraduate and legal degrees from the University of North Carolina.

USAA, retired
Mani Sulur is a retired Bank Chief Risk Officer, Enterprise Chief Compliance Officer, and Shared Service Chief Risk Officer, formerly at USAA. He oversaw enterprise risk and compliance governance across USAA’s banking and insurance operations and serves as a principal advisor to the board’s risk and regulatory committees. Sulur has led the modernization of governance frameworks, enhanced board-level risk reporting and regulatory engagement, and guided the resolution of significant compliance and regulatory matters. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and Control Executive for Consumer Lending, Payments, and Digital Banking at Wells Fargo. Prior, he held leadership roles at Citi and Bank of America, and worked with IBM/PricewaterhouseCoopers and Digitek Business Systems.
Sulur received his MS in Information Management from Southern New Hampshire University and his BE in Electronics and Communication Engineering from PSG College of Technology.

First Citizens, retired
Bill Walsh is Executive Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at First Citizens Bank. He leads compliance efforts focused on regulatory compliance and risk mitigation and oversees the bank’s compliance program. Walsh previously served as Chief Ethics Officer and led regulatory compliance teams supporting wholesale banking, payments, and commerce solutions. Prior to joining First Citizens Bank, he held several senior compliance leadership roles at Fifth Third Bank including SVP, Chief Ethics Officer and Senior Director of Commercial Compliance. Earlier in his career, he was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch, a SVP at Bank of America, a Partner at Kennedy Covington, and an attorney at K&L Gates and Womble Carlyle.

Phill Wertz is an Associate General Counsel in the Bank Regulatory Group of the Legal Department of Bank of America Corporation and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. In this role, he provides enterprise-wide legal advice and subject matter expertise on U.S. bank regulatory matters.
Prior to joining Bank of America in 2001, Wertz was an associate with the law firm Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft where he worked on commercial and capital markets financing transactions.
Wertz graduated from Duke University School of Law with a joint J.D./LLM degree in International and Comparative Law. He received his B.A. from UNC.
