Eric Ghysels

Biography

Dr. Eric Ghysels serves as the Edward Bernstein Distinguished Professor of Economics and Professor of Finance at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also is a finance professor at the university’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Ghysels specializes in time series econometrics and empirical financing. His recent research involves regression models, artificial intelligence, Mixed Data sampling, and FinTech. A leading expert in his field of study, he has published several works and has also served as co-editor for the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics and as an editor the Journal of Financial Econometrics. He also was the inaugural co-president and fellow of the Society for Financial Econometrics (SoFiE).  In addition, Ghysels has previously been recognized as a resident scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and also as a fellow at the European Central Bank and the American Statistical Association.

Ghysels earned his BA from the University of Brussels and his MA and PhD from Northwestern University.
